Adolescent care is focused on the medical and health needs of children during their teen years, a period of very rapid physical and emotional growth and development. Pediatricians who offer adolescent care understand these needs as well as the external influence a child may begin to face, including peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol and participate in risky behavior or sexual activity. Our practice offers skilled care focused on the teen’s unique needs coupled with a compassionate approach that helps them feel valued, secure and empowered.
Adolescent care addresses both physical emotional health issues with services that include:
Plus, our team is skilled in helping parents understand the changes their child is experiencing during this stage of growth, providing them with the support they need to anticipate issues and deal effectively with issues when they occur.
At Optimal Health Care Center, our medical team and office staff are keenly aware of the significant differences between adolescent patients and younger children. We strive to provide a caring environment that supports adolescent patients’ needs for confidentiality, trust, and security while promoting healthy collaboration with family members and other loved ones. Most office visits include a physical exam in addition to a review of the patient’s concerns and symptoms. Other evaluations and assessments will be performed and prescribed based on the patient’s individual needs and may include lab testing, physical assessments and guidance for specific concerns.
We do strive to provide an opportunity for adolescent and teen patients to speak privately with the doctor so they can gain confidence in including their parents in their concerns. At the same time, we’re mindful of the need for parents to be actively involved in any medical decisions or health concerns, and we encourage parents and patients to use the visit as an opportunity to support each others’ needs.
